What is Success?

To get an idea of what a successful mindset is, a root concept of “success” must be defined. This is different for everyone, but for simplicity we will define a basic set of requirements:

  1. The freedom to make one’s own choices in every aspect of one’s life
  2. Possession of whatever resources are necessary to facilitate #1

If you ask a few people around Earth to describe their ideal life, there is a good chance it fits the description above. Many people want a beautiful house, a nice car, maybe a farm, garden, shop, or other kind of property to engage in the kind of work they enjoy. These are common goals that many people share because they are rooted in nature, as the very function of life itself is to create ideal conditions in which to thrive and propagate life.

The act of successful thinking is therefore a process which focuses upon thoughts that produce good results, while discarding the rest. Creating success for both ourselves and others simultaneously can have compounding returns, as we are improving the very economy we are working in.

Where to Start

Any goal can be achieved by following the correct steps. Determining what the correct steps are can be a challenge, especially when we are bombarded with large amounts of information on a daily basis.

While the exact day-to-day actions will be very different for each person to achieve their own ideal successful life, the general concept of thinking in a successful way involves a series of mental processes which take random inputs and produce reliable, predictable outputs.

There are countless options available to anyone at any moment, including the option to wait until the next moment, ad infinitum. There are also infinite resources available on Earth and beyond, so being successful is never a matter of whether or not someone else gets something before you do.

Therefore, one’s path to success is largely mental in nature, and the difference between living a successful life or not is the concrete decision to overcome any and all obstacles in order to achieve the results desired. The sheer amount of options available at any moment — especially in today’s increasingly connected world — can be truly overwhelming to the untrained mind.

To stay on course, whatever that course may be, or to correct course as necessary or desired, one must adopt the fixed decision that success is a fact and will be the default outcome. Otherwise, any of a million random obstacles could deliver the fatal blow to one’s plans. Success is a decision.

A Secure Mindset

Once a concrete decision has been made to be successful in one’s endeavors, it then becomes critical to protect this mindset from outside negative influence. Remember that choosing one’s own destiny is a right, and even if your goals do not seem realistic to others, it is not for others to say what you can or cannot achieve. Decide what you want to achieve and if you genuinely believe that you can do it, decide that you will and commit your decision to memory.

Remind yourself daily or even hourly if necessary that you are on the right track, and that you know your goals are within reach. You can see them.

To clear a path towards success, create space within the mind for the production of things that bring joy to yourself and others. Limit contact with people who are in opposition of your success and want you to give up. They do not have a better plan for you. You are an individual with direct access to your own life’s information. You can figure out what’s best for yourself, your family, and so forth. You don’t need permission to succeed.

Small Achievements

Life is an eternal stream of cause-and-effect relationships in which one plays into the other in perfect succession. When we celebrate a victory, we are really celebrating the hard work that went into achieving that victory, from the moment we first realized we even wanted to achieve it, to the very last second that made the difference between success and failure.

Doing everything to the best of one’s ability has the result of creating a sense of achievement in the small everyday aspects of life. Keeping the area around you clean and organized for example has compound returns by making it easy to focus moment-to-moment and create more small victories to enjoy and so forth. Everything around you is made of tiny atoms (which themselves are mostly empty space anyway) which is proof that small things add up into the experience that is your life as a whole.

Do whatever it takes each day to remain focused on whatever you can actually do that day, even if it feels small or insignificant or if you are nowhere near your goal. It doesn’t matter, because the path from one place to another always includes the first step, which may look insignificant, but is in reality the one which sets the path for the entire success journey.

Celebrate these first steps and give yourself credit for them no matter how small they appear to be. Everything big today was once just an idea.

Open-Mindedness

Remaining in the present moment and open to possibilities is both the greatest challenge and the most rewarding to overcome. Just the idea of “being in the present moment” can be elusive and difficult to grasp.

Because small achievements make all the difference in the world, there is an endless supply of opportunities to do small things for one’s self and others, which work to improve the overall state of things within the universe. Don’t wait for the big opportunity to come along. Create bigger opportunities by exhausting one’s supply of small opportunities to make what add up to big changes in the long run. Succeeding at small tasks has the direct result of clearing small tasks and creating room for bigger, more complex ones.

Earth is a very big place with a lot of areas to explore and a lot of interesting people who are also trying to make the absolute most of their own lives, since that is all we really have control over anyway. We can’t force other people to see things the way we do, because it’s counter-productive to free will and the choice to craft one’s own experience — the very essence of life itself.

In mathematics, the idea of an equation having a set of solutions instead of a single answer can be difficult to grasp. Likewise, the idea that life has a complex and infinite set of solutions — and that “one size does not fit all” — can be very difficult to grasp.

We all have the right to create a life of our own choosing (so long as we are not infringing on the rights of others). Keeping an open mind about what success means to other people is important to one’s own success, since many of our greatest opportunities in life come in the form of helping others who help us in return. This is how and why keeping an open positive mind is bound to create positive results in the long run — because choices are made daily which reinforce one’s own foundation in life and the community at large.

Conclusion

A successful life is a series of steps that one may take towards one’s goal. When we set out towards a goal, we probably don’t know exactly which steps to take at every moment. That would not make for a very exciting life anyway, much like watching the same movie over and over.

The steps we can take, however, are those which are purely mental in nature and create fixed decisions within the mind, which are absolutely required in order for the mind to create something desired. Works of art and perfection are created with great thought and intention, not by happenstance or by going along with whatever the great event of the day is. Masterpieces are created by those working diligently to create something only they can envision as real.

There can never be too many awesome things in the world, so there is always a good reason to believe in what you can achieve and make it happen.
