Be the Change You Want to See

Life is a Reflection of the Mind’s Eye

When we are navigating difficult and challenging times in life, it can seem hopeless when things add up beyond what we think we can handle. Occasionally it seems that we are trapped in an illusion or that we are living groundhog day and that nothing seems to change no matter what we try to do. What keeps things in this state?

We are a product of how we think. Whenever we think something about ourselves, we are creating our own confirmation bias about these circumstances or properties concerning our lives. Since we are always receiving feedback from the external world that supports how we perceive things due to our actions and reactions (karma), it can be easy to get trapped in a vicious cycle of repeating the same mistakes or going about things in an inefficient manner that produces less-than-ideal results.

Breaking Cycles

To create new and more desirable outcomes in life requires the breaking of unwanted patters and habits that keep us rooted in the past and prone to repeating the same actions, which translate in to more of the same.

While it can be difficult and painful to examine our actions and thoughts in detail in order to create a better path forward, it’s much less painful than remaining in unhealthy patterns and dealing with the consequences.

The key to breaking out of unproductive habits and the limiting beliefs behind them is awareness. When we become aware of our thoughts and actions, they come within our grasp, allowing us to change them. It makes sense that one cannot change something without first being aware of it.

To change your life, you will have to start somewhere, and to get from point A to B you will need to understand not only that you are at point A, but also where point A is in relation to B and why you are where you are.

Creating Change

Make a decision to change immediately in the present moment and begin to find subtle yet powerful ways in which you can do things slightly different to achieve different outcomes. Read books on self-development, build out a schedule and follow it, and develop the internal strength and discipline required to shape yourself into what you want to become.

If you want to see changes in your world, the only surefire way to see them is to create them yourself. If you want to be surrounded by beauty and inspiration, begin working immediately to create positive changes in your mindset and your habits and do things that produce results you can see, such as cleaning and organizing things, working on your physical health, meditating to open your mind to new experiences, and doing things for the people around you.

The more of these things you do, the more you will begin to see reflections of your actions in your day-to-day life. It’s difficult to break through the illusion that things are the way they are indefinitely, however with time and patience it becomes easier. This is what can be so deceiving about creating your own reality — it looks on the surface like things just “are the way they are” but truly behind the scenes, the source code of the universe is mutable and changes in our actions and the attitudes and intentions behind them are bound to create changes in our external world.
