I’m also a writer and I stopped what I was doing today to read this, because I have heard this argument also many times working in the software and IT sectors. “Aren’t you afraid you’ll be replaced by an AI?” Well, who’s going to fix the robot?
Let’s say 25 years in the future, you bring in your robot to my son’s repair shop for some routine maintenance, and your robot is super happy and thanks you. Maybe it finishes doing whatever around the house and then goes and plays guitar for some other robots that paint in the park. Where in this universe is there any conflict over who does what job? Let’s be realistic here, I’m not theorizing, I create this stuff for a living and have been doing so for a long time, and I’ve been studying AI for the past two years so that I can begin working in that industry with the knowledge and experience to do it right.
The concept here is abundance versus scarcity. Those who search for opportunities will find them, because while the rest of society is sitting around bitching about everything taking over and basically inviting that very scenario to exist, the producers and creators are on to the next thing, because history will never run out of need for people who can write, design, paint, produce, build, or communicate to other people these very critical skills that are crucial to the progression of the human race (or any other race for that matter).
