No Good Deed Goes Unpunished
Why Altruism and Selflessness is the Stairway to Hell
The world in which we live is a brutal and unforgiving place. Most people just want to be good people and live a good life, but this is easier said than done.
Many of us are taught from an early age that if we just study, work hard, and treat others well, that we will get ahead in life. That concept is a joke today in many places, such as in the US, where the cost of living has skyrocketed, crime is everywhere, and the job market is a dumpster fire in which we race towards the end of our lives trying to impress our employers who often replace us without a moment of hesitation.
The road to hell really is paved in good intentions, and not always for reasons we may think. We may believe that doing good deeds and treating others with kindness will lead us to a life in which our good karma will return the favor, but what kind of karma are you creating for yourself if you sacrifice your own needs and fall behind while trying to help people who may not even care?
Sometimes when we think we are helping someone, we are actually doing more harm than good. In some cases, you really should do what you can to help people, specifically if your efforts are appreciated and honored.
