This is really cool. I was trying to explain different base systems to folks awhile back and it was difficult for them to get their heads around. It didn’t occur to me to use the clock as an example, something we use every day in plain sight. I’m not an expert on the origins of our adoption of base-60, but in general things tend to have a mathematical purpose behind them when they deal with any kind of math or science, as opposed to say cooking a recipe a certain way because Grandma did it back before we had refrigerators. Some things grow out of culture, while most scientifically related concepts grow out of some kind of mathematical function or purpose that drives them.
